Planning a trip to Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is on Navajo Nation land, and Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation allows visits only with a guide. So every trip is a tour, sold by a handful of Navajo-permitted operators: Upper Antelope Canyon from Page or the tribal park gate, Lower Antelope Canyon by two operators on Highway 98, Canyon X by one, Secret Antelope Canyon off US-89, and the lake end of the canyon by kayak from Antelope Point.

Which one is right depends on whether you want the light beams or the stairs, how much walking your group can manage, and whether you are staying in Page or coming up for the day from Las Vegas or Phoenix. These pages compare them plainly.

Before you book

Quick answers

All questions →
Can you visit Antelope Canyon without a tour?

No. Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation says every Antelope Canyon location is accessible only on a guided tour, and personal vehicles are not allowed at the Upper canyon. You book a Navajo-permitted operator for Upper, Lower, Canyon X or Secret Antelope Canyon; our Upper vs Lower guide compares them.

How much does an Antelope Canyon tour cost?

Lower Antelope Canyon general tours list $80.50 all-inclusive at both operators. Upper Antelope tours run from about $85 to $120 before the $15 Navajo fee and booking fees, and Canyon X costs $47 for an adult plus the $15 permit. Our tickets and prices guide has every operator's prices.

Is the Navajo fee included in the tour price?

Not always. Navajo Nation Parks charges $15 per person, per location, per day. Some Upper operators add it on top ($92 plus $15 at one), Lower Antelope operators quote all-inclusive prices, and one Lower operator refunds it if you already paid it at another canyon that day.

Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon: which is better?

Upper is A-shaped and flat inside, and is where the light beams fall, most often from April to September around midday. Lower is a narrow V that you enter down five flights of stairs, about 1.1 miles round trip. Our Upper vs Lower guide goes through both, plus Canyon X.
